🇬🇧🇯🇵🇮🇹 UK, Japan, and Italy move forward on next-generation airpower program. The United Kingdom, Japan, and Italy have awarded the first major contract under the Global Combat Air Programme (GCAP) to Edgewing, valued at $850 million. Launched in 2023, GCAP merges the UK-Italy Tempest project with Japan’s FX program into a single sixth-generation fighter initiative. Edgewing, a joint venture formed by **BAE Systems, Leonardo, and Japan Aircraft Industrial Enhancement Co. Ltd., will coordinate workshare, integration, and supply chains across the programme. While not a full design authority, it plays a central role in managing one of the most advanced fighter development efforts in the world.
