Sources: #Lions All-Pro OT Penei Sewell has agreed to terms on a four-year, $112 million extension that makes him the new highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The deal, which includes $85 million guaranteed, was done by Justin Schulman and Joe Panos of @AthletesFirst.

Lions are re-signing free-agent CB Kindle Vildor to a one-year deal, per source. He reunites with Deshea Townsend his former DB Coach in Chicago who’s now with the Lions. His agents Kevin Conner and Robert Brown of @unisportsmgmt confirmed the deal.

The NFL has banned the hip-drop tackle

The NFL and the competition committee are submitting this language for the dangerous hip-drop tackle. The penalty would be 15 yards. Officials believe they can correctly call it. Some, including the union, have worried about the potential subjectivity of the call

The NFL competition committee has proposed a new rule that would penalize a player with a 15-yard penalty and grant the opposition an automatic first down for using the hip-drop tackle to bring a runner to the ground. This is the definition of a hip-drop tackle: (a) grabs the runner with both hands or wraps the runner with both arms; and (b) unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and trapping the runner’s leg(s) at or below the knee. NFL owners meet next week in Orlando.
