Bugonia was a Mediterranean folk practice based on the belief that bees could spontaneously emerge from the carcass of a dead ox. Before people understood bee life cycles, the ritual was thought to restore lost colonies. 🐝
One of the characters in Yorgos Lanthimos' film is a conspiracy-obsessed beekeeper, and throughout the story, bees symbolize ecological collapse, exploitation of workers, and the cyclical nature of destruction and rebirth. 🔄
