"When I did 'The After Hours,' the whole soundstage was that department store, and there was an eerie feeling because of the immensity of that stage, and the lighting and the darkness beyond. Ah, I still get the chills. But it was a lot of fun working on that." — Anne Francis

Low budget films often shoot non union. Obsession did, and at the same budget Detention was designed for. Yet we got flipped and they didn't. Random. And you know what, I'm fine with it. I just paid it off over seven years and delayed my next film Bodied (which was union in LA). The issue for me is they waited for the first day of the shoot make the demand. They had months to ask us to get unionized. They waited til the first day of shoot. That was not cool.
Joseph Kahn@JosephKahn

My very first morning filming Detention in LA, which was supposed to be an $800k shoot, Iatse showed up with a ballot box and said the crew was going to "vote" to turn it union or I get shut down. I had no choice but to flip it and spent the rest of the shoot scrambling to find money every three days. After it was done, my own DGA union kept sending me bills to pay for fines on a movie I spent my own money on. Of course all this expanded my budget which then put me in another tier of SAG which then increased the budget again. It was an endless union squeeze that kept pushing the budget up, with me holding the bill. As they say in Goodfellas, Fuck You Pay Me.

30 Days of Night (2007) Steve Niles originally conceived the story as a film. After years of rejection by studios, it was reworked into a comic book. Eventually, a studio that rejected the original screenplay went for the comic version. They paid much more than Steve Niles offered to sell the original story.

After playing a pretty boy sailor in Billy Budd, Terence Stamp made a jump into the horror genre in The Collector (out today, 1965) as a rich tormentor, then again in Spirits Of The Dead as a drunken victim of a wily Satan. Chilling, and a far cry from his adventures as Priscilla

Heather Langenkamp appreciation post. Heather not only brought the character of Nancy Thompson vividly to life in Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), she also co-owns AFX Studio, the company responsible for the special effects for movies such as Dawn of the Dead (2004) and The Cabin in the Woods (2011) as well as various American Horror Stories.

Even though this is fake, about 4 years ago we were offered a full size TIE fighter for about 70k. The problem was, it was overseas, which would have cost a fortune to ship along with tariffs! We still hope someday we can get one to display.

I’m really digging the cinematography for SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY. This already looks so much more stylish and cinematic than the last three films.
