Research on Capitol Hill Day is always a highlight, especially seeing students from my district share the groundbreaking work they’re doing across our state. It was a pleasure to meet Rosemay Yahne from Layton, who was named the College of Engineering Undergraduate Researcher of the Year for 2026. Research like Rosemay’s is exactly what helps propel our communities forward and strengthen Utah’s economy. #utpol

We are thrilled to share that Mechanical Engineering student Boston John has been selected to receive a renowned scholarship from the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation! Boston is the 4th USU student to be honored with this award & the only recipient in Utah this year. Congrats!

We are happy to announce Bethany Neilson as the new director at the Utah Water Research Laboratory! A proud USU alumna, Dr. Neilson brings more than two decades of experience in water research, environmental system analysis and mentoring the next generation of engineers.

The Mars Rover Team has earned an invitation to the international University Rover Challenge — marking the first time a USU team will be represented in person. The event will take place May 28-31 at the Mars Desert Research Station in Hansville, Utah.
