At 101 years old, Schuetz was the oldest individual to stand trial for complicity in war crimes committed during the Holocaust. Schuetz was found guilty of being an accomplice to the murder of at least 3,500 people during his time as a prison guard at the Sachsenhausen camp in Oranienburg, north of Berlin, from 1942 to 1945. He received a five-year prison sentence but remained free pending appeal. Schuetz passed away in April 2023.
