“Anyone I could save with my bare hands, I saved, and the rest went down the river, never to return.” 3 Oct 1915: Konya Gov. Mehmet Celal Bey - called Turkish Oskar Schindler for rescuing 1000s during Armenian genocide - is removed from office after resisting deportation orders.

111 years ago, 1.5 million Armenians were killed - starved, tortured, and murdered. 37 countries recognise this as genocide. The UK still does not. It’s time we did.

In 1915 #OnThisDay, the Armenian Genocide began with mass arrests of intellectuals in Istanbul. Up to 1.5 million were killed. Germany knew early and stayed silent. To this day, Turkey refuses to call it genocide. Remembering is vital to understanding the present.

BREAKING: The Holy Mother of God Cathedral in occupied Stepanakert has been destroyed by the Azerbaijani regime, according to the Artsakh Culture and Tourism Development Agency, on the eve of the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Constructed between 2000 and 2019, the cathedral was the city’s central church of the Armenian Apostolic tradition and a symbol of revived religious life after decades of Soviet suppression. It followed an earlier church dating back to the late 19th century that was shut down during the Soviet period, restoring a presence that had been deliberately erased. More than a place of worship, the cathedral stood as a visible expression of Armenian historical and cultural continuity in Artsakh. During the blockade, it also became a key gathering point, one of the few remaining spaces for communal and spiritual life under siege. Artsakh’s cultural authority said the destruction is part of a broader, systematic effort to eliminate Armenian cultural presence, describing it as a deliberate act of erasure targeting identity, heritage, and continuity. It also condemned the lack of response from Armenia’s authorities and the absence of meaningful international reaction, warning that silence only deepens a sense of impunity and further undermines the prospects for the return of displaced Armenians by severing their ties to their homeland.

ASSYRIA TODAY
🕯️ Martyred for His Nation and Faith: Assyrian Christian Prof. Ashur Yousef (1858–1915), Executed by the Ottoman Regime 💔 Assyrian Christian Prof. Ashur Yousef was more than a scholar—he was a voice of his people. Born in 1858 in Harput, he became a respected professor at the American Euphrates College and a leading Assyrian intellectual. In 1909, he founded the Turkish-language newspaper Murshid Athuriyun (“The Spiritual Guide of the Assyrians”) and wrote poetry in Armenian and Turkish, preserving culture and identity. ✍️ In 1915, during the systematic persecution of Christian populations under the Ottoman regime, he was targeted for his faith and leadership. On April 19, 1915, he was arrested alongside his brother Donabed and other Assyrian leaders. What followed were months of imprisonment, daily suffering, and torture. ⛓️💔 On June 23, 1915, he was executed in Amid (Diyarbakir), alongside other well-known Assyrians. 🕯️ Today marks the 111th anniversary of his arrest and martyrdom. 💔 The horrors in Harput were unimaginable. Thousands of Assyrian Christian men, women, and children were massacred. The streets ran red with blood. Water wells were filled with the bodies of innocent Christians—babies, children, men, and women—many thrown in while still alive. 🩸😭 This was part of a broader genocide against Assyrians, Armenians, Maronite, and Greeks—entire communities erased, voices silenced, histories shattered. 💔Prof. Ashur Yousef’s martyrdom stands as a symbol of sacrifice, resilience, and truth. His memory—and the memory of all victims—must never be forgotten. ✝️🕯️ #AssyrianGenocide #Sayfo #Seyfo #NeverForget #ChristianPersecution #Assyrian #ArmenianGenocide #GreekGenocide #Christian #AssyrianHistory #Syriac #Remember1915. .
