In 2007, 13-year-old Paris Bennett murdered his 4-year-old sister, Ella, inside their home in Texas. He waited until their mother was at work, convinced the babysitter to leave, then went into Ella’s room and stabbed her 17 times. Bennett later said the attack was not a loss of control. It was meant to punish his mother by taking away the person she loved most. He admitted he chose not to kill his mother because he wanted her to live with the pain for the rest of her life. Bennett pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. After serving 20 years, Paris will become eligible for parole next year.

A young Turkish woman married the man who threw acid on her face, leaving her permanently disfigured and partially blind. Berfin Özek was only 18 when her ex-boyfriend attacked her after their relationship ended. Before throwing the acid, he told her: “If I can’t have you, no one can.” The attack burned her face and chest, destroyed one of her eyes, and left her with serious vision problems in the other.
