Porter's Five Forces and how you think about it when you evaluate that business or company. ✑ Buyer's power: Can customers force prices down? The strategic implication is that strong buyers weaken pricing power (the cement guys can not relate sha, but the brewery guys can relate very well). ✑ Supplier's power: Can suppliers raise input costs? The strategic implication is that strong suppliers squeeze gross margin. ✑ Rivalry: How hard are competitors fighting? The strategic implication is that high rivalry compresses margins and raises spend. ✑ Threat of substitutes: Can customers solve the same need differently? The strategic implication is that substitutes cap pricing and growth (NB: Pepsi is not a substitute for Coca-Cola. A Chivita juice or even bottled water looks more like a substitute). ✑ Threat of entrants: Can new players enter easily? The strategic implication is that low barriers reduce long-term returns (for more than twenty years, we have not seen another entrant in the telco space). And then there is one last one that does not get mentioned often: "regulatory power". This one can cascade every other force. For example, MTNN is green in four of Porter's Five Forces. Even the last one (rivalry) is increasingly weakening. But "regulation" has a very strong hold on their business (re: the 2015 fine, capital repatriation, NIN-SIM, tariff-hike embargo, etc.).

That's not correct. MREIF eligibility is age 21 and above, provided you're not older than 60 when the loan matures , so younger applicants are squarely in. If anything, being younger helps you secure the full 20 year tenor. What you typically need is a verifiable income, equity contribution, and a property within your credit capacity.

First of all, I really like the tone. It sounds accountable. I like that. I also like the admission of the shortfalls. But sadly, the substance remains rather thin. MREIF is only accessible to folks who are 42 years and above, and that already cuts off many people (referring to the “hardworking family escaping rent”). In my opinion, even with the honest admission that the work is unfinished, we don’t write any threads on 2k units, given the shortfall at hand. And I tried to look for discussions on building costs, land reforms, etc., but didn’t see much. Nothing in this convo speaks to “affordability.” How much salary do we need to earn to get houses?
