⚙Product Spotlight ⚙ This part is one of the smallest gears we’ve ever manufactured at just .400" long and .600" in diameter. Made from pre-hardened 4140 steel at 28-34 HRC, this 20DP, 10-tooth gear features two precisely ground hubs held to within .0005" to ensure accuracy during hobbing. Precision that takes off ✈✈✈ These aerospace spline coupling may be just over half an inch in diameter, but their complexity tells a much bigger story. Machined from heat treated H11 tool steel, each part features precision wire-cut internal splines and a clean electropolished finish to remove EDM recast. Despite their size, these components pack a serious level of complexity and are a great example of the tight tolerances and high standards we deliver every day. Another precision part in progress-- machined from 17-4 stainless steel and heat treated to Condition H1075 featuring an internal spline, this one’s a perfect fit in more ways than one. After heat treat, this part goes through passivation and MPI to ensure strength and integrity. Designed to fit with an external spline this one also features a cut slot to allow it to flex and clamp tightly to the mating component. Mostly mill work, except for the spline itself, which we shape in-house, our capabilities really shine through. Two gears, one mission: precision in every step. This 13-8PH stainless steel part starts with a normalizing process to reduce the risk of distorting later on. We then turn the net shape, leaving two hubs oversized. The finer 64DP gear teeth are shaped first due to tool clearance limits, followed by hobbing the larger 48DP gear. After initial shaping, the part is core hardened to 34 HRC. Then we turn the hubs for final size before sending it for a nitriding treatment. Welcome Lexi, our business development intern! Lexi is a rising senior at Lake Zurich High School and joined HM Manufacturing through a high school internship program. With a passion for data and math, she took on a creative role this summer—designing marketing content, writing captions, and creating social media posts. In her time here, Lexi has built skills in branding, content strategy, and digital communication. She has also gained insight into how business and manufacturing combine. Outside of school, Lexi enjoys traveling, playing piano, golfing, and crocheting. After graduation, Lexi plans to pursue a degree in data science or applied math. This stainless-steel roller shaft features precision-cut grooves across its face to assist in food processing applications. Part of a 3-piece assembly, it’s made from 304 stainless steel and includes a unique internal dye detection system--green dye is sealed inside and released if the part fractures during use, helping ensure food safety. Precision meets performance! This steel timing belt pulley measures just over 1" in diameter and 1.5" in length, this 17-tooth pulley features an AT5 pitch tooth profile. The tapped holes and wire burned slot in the hub allow this to clamp securely onto a shaft. Machined entirely in-house using a CNC lathe, CNC mill, CNC gear hobber, wire EDM, and finished with zinc plating. Precision in action! ✨ This CNC broaching process cuts a splined bore one tooth at a time.
