Happy funky Friday Hunt Valley! My view this morning walking into the building 🥰

6th graders tested water quality from local streams today! Then they repeated the tests with wastewater from the sink in our classroom.

6th graders @HuntValleyES investigated examples of chemical and physical weathering around the school grounds today!

I used this today for a math warm up! First we figured out how to get 4.7 with a syringe that counts by 5ths, then we made a ratio table to compare the amount given over the 10 day pd. They say write what you know, and I know strep throat meds 🙄😂

6th graders @HuntValleyES had a special visitor from the @IntlSpyMuseum today! They had the chance to “playtest” an activity for the museum, and the energy in the room was electric ⚡️! We loved seeing them think through the problem in so many creative and unique ways.

I was SO proud to have a former @HuntValleyES student from my very first year of teaching (2009-2010😬) share about her job at Career Day today! She’s a concept artist for movies and video games. It’s as cool as it sounds!

6th grade math students @HuntValleyES love a chance to write on the tables! Today they rocked solving and representing one step equations.

A @HuntValleyES 6th grader asked if he could teach math for a day l, and I was more than happy to oblige! He wore a tie and he’s starting us off with @Estimation180 and @mr_stadel 🥰.

@GeorgeStark74 @HuntValleyES I was coming to say the same thing, I’m only about 3.5 chapters in so far and I don’t anticipate making every change. I can only do so much! But I’m trying to not be intimidated and to just go for it - hence the papers taped up on the wall and not the fancy mounted whiteboards 😂

@HVES_Devoti @HuntValleyES I am struggling reading the book to be honest I find it a very negative book. The opening chapter where the lady has taught for 15 years with no problem solving? Seriously? Every question is a problem. Can you tell me which chapter to read?

I’m loving reading Building Thinking Classrooms in Mathematics! We’ve tried out vertical learning spaces and they really do change the game. It’s a quick version and not the VNPS of the book, but even this slow start prompted changes in thinking! #thinkingclassroom @HuntValleyES

6th graders @HuntValleyES shared their colonial travel brochures in a cross-classroom gallery walk today. Love seeing their creative and critical thinking!😊

Cellist @YoYo_Ma performed a rendition of “America the Beautiful” with the Philadelphia Orchestra (@PhilOrch) to commemorate the launch of #Artemis I to the Moon.

How many teachers does it take to do a subtraction problem? One, because it only takes one teacher to make a difference.

At the end of our unit, here are their astronomy questions! The questions keep coming, and they’re all awesome. @HuntValleyES sixth graders are great critical and creative thinkers 😊
