New York already spent $4.5 billion on Phase 1 of the Second Avenue Subway. Now they’re committing another $7.7 billion for just 1.8 miles, over $4 billion per mile. Across the world, cities build subways for $150M–$500M per mile. New York is paying 8–10x more, and still going over budget. Under @MTA and @GovKathyHochul, we’ve gotten $1B+ stations, hundreds of millions to consultants, years of delays, and no accountability. The MTA answers to the Governor, so this failure sits squarely on her desk. And now she’s upset that Washington doesn’t want to pay for the overruns? A competent Comptroller would have audited these contracts, exposed the waste, and stopped the bleeding before it got this bad. Instead, New Yorkers are paying world-record prices for a system that delivers anything but world-class results.
