Canadians are sometimes viewed as subhumans by Americans. However, most people in Canada, especially in Alberta, don't want to accept this. To Americans, Canada has often been seen as a sidekick. I believe Canadian hillbillies won't let that idea take hold and will happily remain the lackeys of Americans.

Canada is so funny. It has two active separatist movements and one of them is right wing. Their conservatives have a giant chunk that would happily want the Americans to take over because they lack any sense of patriotism. They are eternal wannabe Americans in waiting. The only reason Canada is a country is that the Liberals want a separate country and the Republicans in America would get far too many democrats if Canada and America merged.
