Kounde's 🇫🇷 situation is not unique. Even the greatest full back in Barcelona's history have gone through it. Since joining Barcelona, Kounde has been very solid and was a key part of the historic 2022-23 defense that kept clean sheets for fun. He kept improving and by 2024-25 he was arguably a top 3 right back in the world. This season he has declined and yes it is concerning, but writing him off is too early. Look at Dani Alves in 2013-14, people thought he was finished by the end of the season, then he bounced back and delivered some of the best seasons of his career. Suggestions about Bundesliga merchants or replacing him with unproven players from smaller La Liga teams is a joke. Real improvements should be expected next season. Selling him or Balde now would be a mistake. Nowadays people focus only on negatives and put Barcelona players under a microscope, criticizing everything. In a game where he should have had 2 assists after creating two big chances, his teammates missed, yet he was only criticized for 2 poor passes at the back, mistakes he should not have made but that did not cost the team anything in this match. He needs to improve, but people are exaggerating. Off seasons are normal. No serious club sells a player who was top 3 in his position because of one bad season, especially when replacing him is not easy with no top right backs available. Otherwise you'll be selling half the squad every season. The same applies to Balde. The real issue is squad depth. Barcelona should keep both full backs, all main players and starters next season, sign Cancelo and add another full back too. That way Kounde and Balde can rest more, avoid injuries and have real competition to push them forward during the season and be 100% fit for the critical part of the season.
