@JeffCallaway Ridiculous that 8 of 9 teams make the playoffs. Why even bother with the regular season?

@PlaceHadyn I will admit that 8 out of 9 making it is pretty generous. I would hope that means expansion is in the future but I'm not holding my breath. Quebec city, Halifax, maybe even Portland or Missoula?

The “Spring Economic Update” was released today. Some highlights: - no personal or corporate tax rate changes - no promised corp “expert tax review” - Overall deficit reduced from its original projection of $78.3B to $66.9B due to windfall revenues from higher oil prices and higher tax revenues. Cue the crowing that this reduction is good fiscal management. It isn’t. The deficit is still a history making deficit and represents poor fiscal policy despite all the rhetoric in the budget documents about how great Canada is compared to other countries. The reality is we are in poor fiscal shape. oI’m purposely ignoring the constant chatter in the Update about the “capital” and “operating” amounts that are separated in the budget. As I’ve mentioned many times in my writings, this is simple deception. It might fool the financially illiterate though… -Public debt charges are projected to increase from $54B in 2025-2026 to $80.9B in 5 years. Today, it consumes approximately 10.2% of total projected budgetary revenues ($529.5 billion for 2025-26) -To put that in perspective, the transfers to the provinces for health transfers is projected to be $58.4B for the next year & increasing to $67.9B in five years. In other words, before any public services can be provided, we must first pay the debt servicing costs. And those costs are almost equal today to the projected health transfers. A fiscal train-wreck despite all the crowing. -The tax measures in the Update were light & included: oSome welcome – and long overdue - amendments to the disability tax credit regime; oA permanent extension of the $10M Employee Ownership Trust exemption. While the government may like this program, the reality is that it is far too restrictive to be of any use for most private businesses. The projections in the budget documents for pick-up are far too optimistic, imo. I don’t know any sane business owner who would realistically want to use these provisions - $10M exemption or not. oSome tinkering with the RRSP home-buyers plan; oA proposal to increase the limit on eligible temporary relocation expenses that can be deducted in a year from $4,000 to $10,000 with annual indexation thereafter, and to modify the distance rule such that the temporary lodging must be at least 120 kilometres closer to each temporary work location than the taxpayer's ordinary residence. oThe usual “green” tax credit / enhancement stuff….yawn… oA new measure where CRA will priortize requests for Advance Tax Rulings related to “large-scale, nation-building projects….” Huh?? Come on. By doing this the government is letting "big-ticket" projects jump to the front of the CRA line for tax rulings, effectively giving wealthy investors a "fast-pass" while everyone else waits. This creates a two-tier system where political importance - rather than fairness - determines how quickly you get an answer from the taxman. We need adults at the wheel. budget.canada.ca/update-miseajo…

Looks very much like Carney and Champagne want to abuse Canada's triple A credit rating rather than remove Trudeau era legislative hurdles driving private investors away from resource projects Never let a self-created Liberal disaster go to waste! "...but also have a retail aspect to it that Canadians, should they choose to do so, can co invest with us in building this country and benefit both collectively but also individually from these nation building investments." The media always forgets to note that the initial seed dollars are generational Canadian tax dollars too The election was 357 days ago. There was NO mention of a sovereign wealth fund during Mark Carney's 2025 federal election campaign

Here's another reason Shell CEO Sawan stepped out for a major Cdn Montney acquisition, the 1.5 bcf/d Arc Resources. Yes, it fits to LNG but also Yes the Montney is at early stage of development. There are debates to when US star play peaks but major player like Devon confirm they are looking international for the their mid/long term growth. See my 👇02/18/26 post. There is no debate on Cdn Montney & other top #Oil #NatGas plays - no one talks about them peaking. Rather is is like @TourmalineOil CEO Mike Rose on 🇨🇦 #NatGas most important advantage for the mid/long term is that they are nowhere near peaking. See my 👇02/10/26 post. It's why i have been asking if we will see a replay of late 90's when US/global players bought up Cdn producers because of a similar #NatGas advantage? #oott
Dan Tsubouchi@Energy_Tidbits

Looking beyond the Permian shale/tight plays for long term #Oil #NatGas. Devon Q4 call: confirming they are looking at international as "the confidence in the the near-term is exactly why we need to be doing things to think about the next decade...". Makes sense. Note they stopped saying Delaware was multi-decade in the Q2/24 and now call it a decade+ play. With a 35% decline rate in their top shale play, the Delaware, they can't wait five years to figure out what is next. See my 👇02/10 post. Cdn play advantage reminder from @TourmalineOil CEO Mike Rose that Cdn plays are nowhere near as developed as US shale. When see Devon looking beyond shale, can't help remember the late 90s when US/global players saw their Lower 48 plays maturing in the pre-shale days so came and bought up Cdn producers that had much longer life drilling inventory. #oott

I can’t even conceive of all the ways this go wrong. If govt encourages ppl to buy shares into their Canada Strong Fund they will have an incentive to make these government chosen projects successful/profitable, inevitably tilting the playing field for those that they have selected, versus all the other competitor projects There are copper and nickel mines on this list, LNG projects. What happens to the ones not on the list under this scheme??

🚨 MUST WATCH: Johnny Carson (a Democrat) opens the 1981 Oscars, a day after the assassination attempt on President Reagan, with genuine class and respect. The entire liberal Hollywood crowd erupts in applause. Today? Jimmy Kimmel jokes about Melania Trump becoming a widow.

"Former Newfoundland premier Brian Peckford is the one man still alive who was personally in the room with then-prime minister Pierre Trudeau when the provinces and the federal government agreed, together, to a new Constitution Act and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. He talks to Brian Lilley about the real basis for Section 33 — the notwithstanding clause — and how it came into being. He explains why the story that the federal government is telling about the clause’s alleged misuse is false, why Ottawa’s attempts to override it are unconstitutional and why the Supreme Court has no authority to weigh in on its use, as the justices are now doing at the justice minister’s request." nationalpost.com/opinion/libera…

People must appreciate that the 1980 National Energy Program was established as a result of the 1979 oil crisis that led to the federal government redistributing Alberta's windfall oil profits through new taxes. It led to a national unity and constitutional crisis, and eventually the new 1982 Constitution with the "resource amendment" s.92A that affirmed the provinces' exclusive jurisdiction over non-renewable resources. The Carney government is giving just enough information to make every Albertan fear that this is what the Sovereign Wealth Fund is really about: an NEP 2.0. I guess we will know tomorrow if those fears are justified.
Heather Exner-Pirot@ExnerPirot

OK I am panicking now “Where there is at the heart of all these projects, including resources, provincial jurisdiction; where the federal government is catalyzing, helping to make the project happen through a tax or other incentive - regulatory support - and at the core there is a commercial business making a profit, it is fair, right, just, smart for Canadians to have a share directly in those profits.”
