I have made the difficult decision to resign from @DailyMaverick in December in order to pursue an opportunity to do much the same - chase crooks & make it just a little more difficult to do illicit business in South Africa - in the corporate sector. Today was my last day. 🥂🇿🇦✨

Hi friends, Just woke up in London and found out my parents have been stuck near Van Reenens Pass for the past 12 hours. The snow is a meter deep and they haven’t been able to move at all. There is still a blizzard around them. They have run out of food and water. Never in my life did I think I would be asking for help on social media because my parents are stuck in a snow blizzard in the middle of South Africa. My brother has tired to call emergency services but is not getting much help. Andrew is going to try drive as close to possible to get to where the highway is blocked off and let the emergency services and police know that my parents are stuck there. I am flying home tomorrow but feel absolutely helpless. I am not sure what I am asking here. I don’t actually know what to do.

Thank you all very much for the well wishes. CT went okay with the word that if it is anything serious they will contact us. Does not inspire much confidence in the process. Maureen is still experiencing much pain and discomfort. Waiting on results.

I never studied Journalism. I went to Varsity twice. And dropped out both times. We don’t judge here friends. You would have sworn I was actually a student at RAU or WITS or even AFDA in my first year because I was just there… drinking. I dropped out in registration week. The whole thought of studying freaked me out. But then I still hung around the campuses (and student centres). I got the whole experience without the tough parts (or the degree). Sometimes I even went to Shelley’s Accounting lectures with her. Thankfully I didn’t have to write those exams. "Yuck, what a kak subject," little Brenty would say. But as a grown-up business owner, I know now how important this skill is. Shout out to all my accountants. BIG KISS. WE ALL NEED YOU. Tumisho Masha even asked me the other day if we hadn’t studied together at WITS Drama School. No friend, I was there jolling. And some people even swear they saw me on stage at AFDA. Maybe. No. Don't be silly. No one says that. Although, I wouldn’t put it past me. That was a crazy year. I eventually got bored (read that as my parents told me to literally get a life) and I went on a gap-2-years to work in America. Showee, the things I learnt on that trip. What a beautiful life-altering experience. I came back and started studying Marketing. I loved learning about the world through a Marketing perspective. I had some of the best lecturers and made some really lekker friends along the way. I dropped out in the middle of my third year because I was offered the most incredible job. The one that kick-started my entire career. I felt it in my gut that it would. And then it did. I didn’t study journalism but I became a journalist. I founded and now own South Africa’s top good news site. I took something that people believed would never work (sharing good news) and turned it into an incredible platform that has become a powerful voice in the South African narrative. I write, am on radio, on TV and have published a book. Last year, Oprah selected me and three other journalists to interview her. When I introduced myself, she shrieked with excitement. She knew who I was and said that she LOVED Good Things Guy and all the good work we do. Like, when the other journos introduced themselves, she nodded and said "Hi" and when it was my turn, she was was properly fangirling. Ummmmm, excuse me ma’am, that was meant to go the other way. Good grief. Whose bladdy life is this? I digress. Yesterday the announcement came out that I have been selected to join a panel discussion at the Deutsche Welle Global Media Forum 2024. This MASSIVE, really awesome conference offers a unique interdisciplinary platform for media professionals and decision-makers from politics, civil society, culture, education, business, and science from all over the world to get together and learn from each other as part of an intercultural exchange since 2008. There are 160 speakers from around the world that will be sharing their knowledge in Germany in June this year. And they selected little old me to represent South Africa on this global stage. Deep breaths Brenty. You got this. Yes, we have challenges in our country - we all know this - but there is also another narrative to who we are and the Good Things Guy team and I get to tell these stories every single day. Mandy (Wiener) often speaks about how dangerous it is to only look at one side of the story. And there is so much more to our story. I am so flipping excited and honoured to get to tell our “other” story at this event. I didn’t study journalism but I think I really found my purpose in this world. I hope you have too. Another shout-out to the accountants. Okay. Love you. Bye.

Left me speechless. What a stunning production. Netanel Hershtik (the main singer) and I go back about 3 decades. He was also the band at my wedding. This is unbelievably beautiful.

I had a really really bad date over the weekend, the kind that killed my spirit. A date told me I'm fat. And then proceeded to tell me that he hopes I learnt something from this date. And then proceeded to leave the coffee shop without paying for our coffees.

I made classic South African braaibroodjie jaffles because some times you need one and don't feel like lighting a fire and getting the heat down. I cook these directly on my gas hob (can do a fire too 🔥). drizzleanddip.com/2023/10/30/cla…

@abelmike It is always acts of kindness, empathy, compassion that speak far louder thank words. They touch people, their souls and their most pressing needs, words don’t do that. If only people knew what all you do to make the lives of others better.

@Vodacom I’m frustrated beyond measure. I know that I cancelled my contract even though I was month to month. No record at @Vodacom. The fact that @Vodacom doesn’t have a record is not my fault. I have asked it to be escalated but still waiting for it to be escalated! Shocking!

Remember that one time when we landed up on a cooking show? Well, 6 years ago today, the advert launched announcing that we had joined the first season of "My Kitchen Rules" in South Africa. I can honestly say that those couple of months of filming was one of the best adventures of my life. Don't get me wrong... it was super tough; cooking under pressure was stressful, but very early in the process, Andrew and I decided to just have fun. And that is what we did every step of the way. We didn't win, but we actually did. We were the only team to get a 10/10, not once but twice - in 4 seasons, may I add?! And we were voted as the "people's winners" by the public!!! But more importantly, we won because we made lifelong friends with the other contestants, the production crew and even David Higgs and J-Something. Oh, I also found out that I can make a pretty decent cheesecake, chocolate fondant and homemade pasta. Just not pizza on a braai. Ever. Sis. My heart explodes with gratitude when I think about how lucky I was to be part of something so, so special. And to be able to do it with my man was the cherry on that cake. What a special memory. And maybe that's my advice today... treat every moment, everything that comes your way, every single opportunity - even the tough stuff - like the best adventure in your life. Cause when you do that, it somehow becomes exciting, daring and something that you actually want to dive into. That's it. Okay. Love you. Bye.

@Vodacom I will DM but I have given these details ad nauseam to people at @Vodacom and the attorneys. it was apparently handed over to. The fact still remains @Vodacom did not cancel the month to month contract. Simple.
