We mourn the passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh Ji, one of India's most distinguished leaders. Rising from humble origins, he became a respected economist and served in various government positions, including as Finance Minister, implementing economic reforms that helped India rise from the 1991 crisis. As Prime Minister, he made extensive efforts to improve the lives of Indian citizens and further liberalize the economy. His contributions also extended to strengthening India-Sri Lanka relations, fostering friendship and cooperation between our nations. His legacy will inspire generations to come. @dhananath Putting arbitrary price controls on rice causes disruptions price mechanisms and leading to hoarding and black market activity.

🍚🌾 When people stand in lines for rice, a 50% tax on imported rice is cruel and unjustifiable. If food security is the goal: 1️⃣ Remove price controls 2️⃣ Adjust Aswesuma payments to offset price increases from lifting controls 3️⃣ Slash import duties on food items

@dhananath There could be shortage of various types of rice time to time such as keeri samba, naadu etc. Thats because of the choice of farmers who choose what to cultivate depending on their preferences. When a particular type is short in supply market responds to it by prices.

@dhananath SL produce 2.75 million tons of rice per year, while we consume 2.4 million tons as food. There is no actual shortage of rice. We are self sufficient except Basmati. These shortages are caused by price controls.

@dhananath Vehicle permit system is an unfair policy and it should be scrapped up without a delay. It certainly distort markets as well as there is no justice in giving a special treatment for selected group of citizens.

@dhananath Tariffs should align with the government's transportation policy rather than a mode of earning revenue. The tariff system for vehicles should be revised along with a national transportational policy needs and there should be scientific reasoning with clear breakdown of costs.

The Online Safety Act, PTA, and ICCPR were once seen as oppressive laws. Now, with a stronger majority, the government has the power to amend them. Not to abolish, but to reform—fix what's flawed. These laws must exist, but within a framework that respects human rights, democracy, and freedom. They must not become tools of oppression.
