A quote that says quite a lot about him. He's not the type to admit any failings at all is he. There's probably a name for a condition like this. But I'll leave you the readers to think what that could be. Anyway, former First Minister Mark Drakeford's parting gift to the people of Wales? A new electoral system landing next month. 36 new AM's taking Y Senedd up to 96 members. And 16 "super constituencies" with 6 members for each one. So super in fact that one of them- Gwynedd Maldwyn- extends from the tip of Pen Llyn to the outskirts of Shrewsbury!😵‍💫 Most of the others also feel totally contrived. And not based on any real historical, geographical or cultural connections. It was all a political fix between two parties you could say. Plaid wanted an extended Senedd and this was the most Welsh Labour were willing to provide. A botched, half-way house offering which really sums up the political culture of Wales today. And insults the intelligence of the voters in effect. Apologists for the new system say it "simplifies" voting does away with the old two-tier system between a constituency AM and regional AM and will be more representative of what people actually vote for. But the reality? What two parties want might be miles away from what the Welsh public actually want. And it's the cynical sleight of hand which gets me. "You will now have SIX people to represent you" they say. "Think how progressive that is!" But you have no real say in who those six will be as a voting individual. That's all fixed by the parties beforehand. As you will only have one vote. And you are not allowed to choose and prioritise the six candidates based on your own experience and discernment. As would be the case in a proper STV(single transferrable vote) system. As can be seen in Ireland for example. Where electors are trusted to make an informed choice themselves. To really choose who they want to represent them. And the takeaway from all this. What are the political class telling us here? Always remember, it's the parties who count in Wales.... not you the individual voter!

For those who don't know: Plaid Cymru barred potential candidates from running as a Plaid Cymru MS unless they agreed to support transgender beliefs. A vote for Plaid Cymru will be a disaster for the women and children of Wales.
