Pretentious is deriding a stranger using a catch-all metric you don't understand. DPA is nothing but time-adjusted DBPM. DBPM is based heavily upon raw stats, and its own creator acknowledges that it comes with severe shortcomings as a result: "Box Plus/Minus is a very good offensive metric, but it struggles some with defense. As mentioned before, when all you have is a box score, you cannot estimate defense very well." "Box Plus/Minus is good at measuring offense and solid overall, but the defensive numbers in particular should not be considered definitive. Look at the defensive values as a guide, but don't hesitate to discount them when a player is well known as a good or bad defender." Do your research!

@Collectible_God I'm confident that you understand the usage of an example as an illustration of a larger trend. I'm less confident in your understanding of the shortcomings of catch-all metrics, particularly those that measure defense. I'd be happy to explain those if you're interested.
