@mikeastahl Totally! That point in the shoot day when the red pen comes out is never fun.

Practical filmmaking tip: Before the shoot day gets chaotic, mark your shot list in two tiers: must-have and nice-to-have. If you've already done that great. Perhaps the previous day was a bit off or behind. The must-haves are the shots that let the scene survive in the edit. Everything else is a bonus. It can help to consult with the writer to ensure essential story points are captured. That one habit can save your day when time disappears.

Gangster Cinema Central
Gangster Cinema Central@GangsterCinema·
I rarely talk about television on this account, but for Gomorrah I must make this exception. It’s hands down the greatest and most cinematic gangster TV show ever made. Set in Naples, it depicts the world of the Camorra with a level of realism and brutality never seen on American television. Based on the writings of journalist Roberto Saviano, whose exposure of the Camorra has kept him under government protection since 2006, the series carries a level of unapologetic authenticity few crime dramas can match. The first few seasons are directed by Stefano Sollima (son of legendary Italian director Sergio Sollima) who is one of the key figures in modern Italian crime cinema. I kid you not the shows early seasons rival major American productions like The Wire and The Sopranos. Take the time out of your day/evening to watch the video below if you’re on the fence. Jeff Nadu knows what he’s talking about!

Just FYI: My favorite movies are not the greatest movies ever made, and the greatest movies ever made are not my favorites. I hope this makes sense.

RONIN (1998) A sneaky 'hidden cut' occurs when an extra walks past the camera to wipe the frame. The first shot is one location and the second shot is in a completely different part of the French town. A cool way to seamlessly connect different real-world locations.

This is how you make use of locations when time is limited, you're losing the location, you're stealing a shot or you simply need pieces of what each location offers and this looks really seamless.

The script you don't finish never becomes a film. Open it up, write a page, then another. Finish it. Take a break then re-write it until its the best it can be.
