I have a theory that this was done partly out of spite to keep her from reaching her fullest potential in the industry. Both Kubo and Sayo were on a roll and thriving with buzz for their future careers outside of YOI. 7 years of being prevented from living up to that potential.

@SamAburime Another thing that's horrible is that according to leaks, it's already been internally canceled for years before Mappa finally decided to let us know, so she just had to sit there, unable to say anything as people were asking for updates.

There’s factual evidence out there that Johnny Weir was working on the movie in 2018 and there was an interview where he mentioned the movie should be out “early 2019” aka a timeline. It was in the process of being scored too. Committee and staff stalemate = content issues.
