By learning the connections between problem structure and strategy, you set yourself up to be able to adapt strategies to new problems.

If you're over-relying on imitation of examples, you're not building toward being an independent puzzler.

Use the 2:1 ratio to know how much to study: 2 hours studying for each lecture hour.

@Quasilocal Making an inaccurate statement in lecture that the students are supposed to catch is well-accepted. I'm trying to decide whether the difference in stakes here outweighs the fact that students had to go looking for this set of what turned out to be inaccurate statements.

@Quasilocal To the students affected, I would say "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" bc by using the cheat notes they consented to being burned by a classmate who was clueless or doing curve manipulation, and this is the same effect. More abstractly...yeah, it's thornier than that.

This is a professor referring to an exam on ethics. (Redacted because I don't want to target them) Obviously the students shouldn't have cheated, but I can't help feel like entrapment is bordering on unethical here too tbh. What's the academic consensus on cheating entrapment?

Developing an application problem activity on eigenvectors/values in population modeling is just like working on my thesis, right?

@kimdayers It's in there, but it's one of the less interesting kinds (though still important as a step, and finding your own shortcuts can be good motivation for learning about proof).

Math tweeps, help settle an argument. Is arithmetic (like calculating tip, adding 2+4) considered math?
