Former US Middle East negotiator Aaron David Miller told The Times that there is “no simple option for a diplomatic solution” to the ongoing war, underscoring the lack of a clear political pathway to de-escalation.
Turning to Iran, Miller said leadership within the Islamic Republic “appears cohesive and unified,” adding that it seems determined to continue imposing as many costs as possible. His remarks highlight concerns that Tehran is prepared for a long-term confrontation rather than a rapid settlement.
He also commented on US President Donald Trump’s position, saying Trump had put himself in a situation where the continued survival of the IR and its ability to keep launching missiles and drones would deny him even a “semblance of a tactical victory.”
