This proposed legislation does not close the $6.3B #OntEd funding gap. It does not limit growing class sizes, address classroom violence, or any of the other issues hurting Ontario’s publicly funded education system. It is hard to see how this Act puts Ontario students first.

Teacher input is key to getting this right. A one-year program may bring in new teachers sooner, but without improved working conditions, it fails to address retention. A sustainable solution must address all #OntEd challenges, including class size, violence, and underfunding.

$750 does not make up for $6.3 billion in #OntEd government underfunding. Once again, teachers are being asked to show up for students and make up for gaps left by the government. We need real and sustained investments to ensure student success, not another band-aid solution.
