After exploring Minecraft and completing the tutorials, we felt much more confident with our 2D and 3D beam challenge! It was amazing to hear the students talking with each other and discovering how to make blocks float, make diagonals/curves and even try some simple coding!

After learning about Calgary's past and present, we wondered: What would Calgary look like in the future? We sketched out our ideas first and then using shoe boxes and other found materials, students put on their engineer's hat and designed a room from the future.

We got our tinkering hats on this afternoon and began to build out futuristic rooms. The room was buzzing with excitement as students worked.

Did you know that pollinators are important everywhere... Even in the world of Minecraft! With limited supplies, students had to figure out how to create a pollinator garden to attract bees.

To celebrate the last day of Spring and the beginning of a new season, we "planted" three different types of seeds in transparent bags. Our big wonders: What will happen to these seeds in the next 10 days? Do all seeds sprout? Do all sprouts look the same?

We were a little worried, but the weather cooperated and we had a wonderful Sports Day!

Each student is tasked with imaging what Calgary may look like in the future and are designing a room to go into our futuristic building. There was so much excitement, rich discussion and planning going on!

Problem solving and perseverance can look different in many situations. Navigating through the Tutorials on Minecraft Education has provided many students an opportunity to be leaders within our classroom.

Our homes for the bees are almost complete! Did you know that you can use natural items to stain wood? We experimented with using tumeric and red cabbage and discovered that stain came out a light pink, the other a rich yellow. Some of us ❤️ the smell, most of us didn't!

On the second day of our lacrosse residency, we learned how to paint a circle with our lacrosse stick and shoot the ball! There is one day left. What will we learn next?

How has our community changed over time? Student worked together with a learning partner to find out. We noticed that some things changed, while others stayed the same.

Question: How many squares will it take to create your name? Making curved lines really challenged our brains to think! Then we made equations to represent what we drew. Calculators were a big help figuring out the total! Tomorrow we enter the world of Minecraft...

Now that we understand the "rules" for measuring using different objects, we are going to measure the height of our hands using different objects. Today we used blocks.

We had a terrific morning working with coach Tyler and learning about our national summer sport, lacrosse! We practiced cradling, the pancake flip, moving safely with our equipment and playing games. We cannot wait for our next lesson!

Despite the cooler weather and blustery wind, we had a great day at the zoo yesterday while we explored, questioned and learned!

Today we explored how we can use 2D and 3D shapes to create our names digitally.

We are practicing our -ate words by playing Bamboozle! Students loved going up and figuring out the clues. How many -ate words can you come up with?

Before we started are writing assignment today students use blocks to represent an event from their weekend, before sharing with the class. Can you guess what each of us did?
