Amen. Thank you for speaking with great clarity. 🙏✝️🙏 Catholics & Protestants & Jews should all be resolutely standing together in defense of our shared values. Those seeking to divide us do not have America’s interests in their hearts.
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops@USCCB

Catholics are called to reject antisemitism and the lies and conspiracies that fuel it, and to stand clearly against hatred and violence directed toward our Jewish brothers and sisters. To defend religious freedom with integrity, we must also reject antisemitism. @ArchbishpSample @archdpdx Watch the full video at: ow.ly/sYF550Yw6cA

A few quick points: • Re: magisterium, which pertains to the apostolic authority of the Church: Christ, the Head of the Church, gave unique authority to Peter (Mt 16:16-20) and the other apostles, which was then passed on to their successors (Mt 18:15-20; Acts 1:12-26; Acts 15; 1 Tim 3; etc). • Re: the veil: First, Christ alone is the "high priest and unique mediator" (see CCC 1539-55) between God and man, being both God and man. The tearing of the temple veil speaks directly to this Incarnational reality. It also points to the destruction of the barriers between Jews and Gentiles, in and through the new covenant, in the household of God (the Church), as Paul emphasizes in Ephesians 2: "For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility..." • So, the wall between God and humanity has been torn asunder through the broken and torn body of Christ on the Cross, from which comes the one Body of Christ, the Church. • There is a priesthood precisely because Christ is the High Priest, as the entire epistle to the Hebrews explains, in great theological detail. And Christ is "a high priest for ever after the order of Melchiz'edek" (Heb 6:20; cf 7:1ff); and Melchiz'edek (who lived prior to the sacrificial system institute at Sinai) offered bread and wine (Gen 14:18-20). • The struggle for most Protestants is in thinking that only certain men can be priests, when in fact all those who are baptized are priests (what is often called the "common priesthood") while only certain men are ordained to be part of the ministerial priesthood, as the CCC explains: "The ministerial or hierarchical priesthood of bishops and priests, and the common priesthood of all the faithful participate, 'each in its own proper way, in the one priesthood of Christ.' While being 'ordered one to another,' they differ essentially. In what sense? While the common priesthood of the faithful is exercised by the unfolding of baptismal grace - a life of faith, hope, and charity, a life according to the Spirit - ,the ministerial priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood." (par 1547) • In short, she makes a couple of category errors, which then lead to serious misunderstandings of both Scripture and what the Catholic Church (and the Orthodox churches) teaches.

He didn’t come to establish a magisterium. He came to tear the veil. That torn veil in Matthew 27:51 is one of the most theologically loaded moments in Scripture. The veil separated ordinary people from the Holy of Holies where only priests could enter and only through prescribed channels, only with institutional authority. Christ’s death ended that system permanently. The message is pretty clear and that message is that direct access to God is now available to every person. No mediating institution required. The Council of Nicaea was men voting. The Pope is a man. Tradition was compiled by men. Christ came to make all man equal before God. Through Him.

It's virtually impossible to keep debunking all the fake, out-of-context quotes and slop. Rubio's quote last week was picked up by a bunch of ostensibly responsible pundits. Used in headlines, etc. The same is almost surely going to happen with Netanyahu's Durant quote.

The nice thing about the aftermath of almost every tweet I make about antisemitism is that the terrible replies are usually by quasi-Catholics rather than actual Catholics, which makes it very easy to not take them seriously.

Because the USA is denominated in miles. There are 640 acres in a square mile. 640 can be divided by 2 easily. A square half mile is 160 acres, a square 1/4 mile is 40 acres, a square 1/8 mile is 10 acres. Nobody in America knows what a kilometer is, let alone a hectare
Simon Kuestenmacher@simongerman600

Not coming from an agricultural background, some measurements don’t make intuitive sense to me. A Hectares are easy enough to come to terms with: 10,000 square meters. Easy. An acre?! I still can’t wrap my head around this…
