I will be in Phoenix AZ February 12-14 for the 2026 @aaas annual meeting. Be part of the movement to protect, uplift and renew the scientific enterprise at a defining moment in history.

I will be inducted into the Arkansas Latino Hall of Fame in March. This award is the result of 20 years of work at Arkansas State University where I have had amazing students, staff, post-docs, collaborators, mentors, and allies. Thank you to my family for your love.

Deeply honored to receive the Chancellor Medal for Research, the highest award for faculty at AState. Thank you to my students and colleagues who took time to nominate me and wrote letters of support.

So proud of our newest PhD, Dr. Cherryl Quiñones! The size and complexity of her project has set a new bar for students in my lab.

Love the face to face interaction with colleagues at scientific meetings. Excited to go back to my hometown in Mexico to give a plenary talk in May!

Brilee Petty, an amazing student represented my lab at todays Posters at the Capitol. At this event undergrads get to present their work to local Senators and State representatives. We also had lunch with the Interim President of the University. Way to go Brilee!

Last night the Obata Lab and guests went out to Corky Canvas to test out their art skills! Plenty of talent and brains coming out of this lab!

The PSNA conference is one my favorite scientific events each year. Great group of colleagues, and balance of young and seasoned researchers. My batteries get charged here!
