Professor Andrele Brutus St. Val participated in the LLM orientation events this week to deliver a presentation on the US legal system and legal writing. The session encompassed an exploration of case law, statutory law, and legal precedents within the US legal framework.

@ProfStVal @meeradeo I find there's a balance. Sometimes its important just to write without being caught up in getting the cites down to move things along. That said, I now try to regularly cite as I write. But no perfect way to do this - good scholarly writing is just a lot of work.

Today I am in cite-fixing hell. Anyone here with me?

@meeradeo Ah! That sounds more manageable than some of my "Smith at 12." I now don't remember which Smith or article. Luckily I save most of the articles I intend to use and highlight them as I read. It's still a pain. Good luck!

@ProfStVal Almost everything in my article is cited in some way. A few are the full cite in proper form. Many are random notes to myself like, “Mari Matsuda on narrative storytelling.” And then there are a few reminders to find the specific research I need. Those last ones take forever!

This week was the first time that I was able to focus on my scholarship every day with a clear mind since having a baby. I have missed not having a foggy, mom brain. Slowly, I’m getting back to me & it feels good. It looks like I might get this article done after all.
