@ThysMusic Great thread! Back in the days I used to use a very well used and beat up Stanton 500 cartridge to sample all my drums/snares off records. That helped to give them that grimey warehouse feel. That way even if you’re sampling a fat Dre or Tribe kick it still has that grit.

A lot of times when producers love a genre that's generally not produced super cleanly, and then they want to "do genre XYZ, but then make it sound like 2023" (or even worse: "sounding like 2033") - this is what's gonna happen:
