Maybe 2 seconds after this, you see this same symbol on something else. This is called “visual storytelling” and in the before times when people had brains that work, it was a tool used in movies. Now they just have a character explain everything to you. Because people are stupid

The dumbest scene in #disclosureday that made zero sense.

Take Steven Spielberg's name off Disclosure Day and slap M Night Shyamalan's name on it and its a 12% Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Guaranteed.

for as much truly admirable blocking, production design, and overall direction is embedded in disclosure day, there’s a sequence where josh o’connor is evading armed guards while running around in plain sight and it’s kind of hysterical how silly it looks?

i watched disclosure day last night and it was painfully apparent that steven spielberg has just a looney tunes concept of the world. it was terrible and it was fun to watch

Disclosure Day nuns were so chill. Between it and One Battle After Another it’s been a really great time for nuns on film.

So I wrote a review of Disclosure Day, then shelved it until I could see the film again. Went back tonight. A full write-up is coming, but my take holds: fun, flawed, and better the second time. Emily Blunt’s performance and Spielberg’s craft carry it. Some characters are thin, and the ending plays more as a yearning for a return to common culture than as how UFO disclosure would actually unfold. But at its best, you realize there’s something special about watching a master still innovate this late. The summer release date tells you it’s not a think piece. Don’t go in expecting the depth of A.I., and it’s too literal to summon the wonder of his early work. In fairness, few films clear those bars. What it is, is a respectable late-career entry that makes for a perfectly enjoyable weekend night in June.

This is actually one of my favorite parts of Disclosure Day. It trusts the audience to piece together what the technology does, especially given that it’s only shown in the context of people who don’t fully understand it.
The Secret Sun Speaks@SecretSunBlog

Spoiler Alert: Disclosure Day isn't really about aliens or anything like that. It's about magical glow sticks that are never explained or exposited, but comprise the overwhelming bulk of the plot. They also do whatever Spielberg and Koepp need them to do whenever the plot runs aground.

People seem to be debating whether the alien design is Disclosure Day is comically bad or if it’s meta on purpose by deliberately evoking the archetypal blockbuster alien design. Both are wrong. Steven just knows they look like that.

DISCLOSURE DAY opens with a scene that looks exactly like this and it transported me back to 2002 like the critic in Ratatouille.

@GiancarloSopo @alphasugar Yeah. I personally loved it, but I’ve seen a lot of valid criticisms. I completely get where you’re coming from in your original post and respect your opinion, but I’ve seen a lot of “one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen” claims and I just can’t take those people seriously.

@PussInGroots @alphasugar lol yeah. I mean, it's a flawed film. And one's take on where on the "good" vs. "bad" side of the spectrum it falls ultimately depends on how willing you are to overlook its flaws. Fair enough. But it's not even among Spielberg's worst films.

I’ve seen multiple people say variations of “if DD wasn’t directed by Spielberg but was the exact same movie these critics would’ve trashed it,” as if any other filmmaker would’ve made the movie in the same way he did. He and his impeccable craft continue to be taken for granted.

disclosure day was the worst written movie i've ever seen, and that's coming from someone who likes aliens. the movie opens with a POV of a pro wrestler in the middle of getting beaten up and thrown around, and that pretty much sums up the experience of watching that movie.
