When Athens Police responded to a report of a slumped driver they found 21-year-old Isabella Kate K. passed out behind the wheel of a running vehicle. What followed was a masterclass in incoherent deflection and one of the most oddly specific excuses ever recorded on a bodycam. ​ Officers found Isabella unresponsive in her car. Upon being woken up, she appeared completely disoriented, struggling with basic motor skills and speech. ​When questioned about why she was parked there, she insisted she was just "watching people sleep." She then repeatedly brought up her friends, describing them as "fiber artists" as if that explained the 2:00 AM sidewalk nap. When asked how much she had to drink she answered with the best answer ever. She had "a drink coming to the drink." ​Her field sobriety test where balance was nonexistent. Her physical state was so compromised that the officers had to terminate the tests for her own safety before placing her under arrest. ​Back at the station, Isabella blew a .212%—nearly three times the legal limit of .08%. Despite the high BAC and the clear bodycam evidence, the legal system offered a bit of a break. Isabella Kate K. eventually reached a plea deal. ​The Charge: Originally charged with OVI (Operating a Vehicle Impaired). ​The Sentence: She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of Reckless Operation. ​The Penalty: She was ordered to pay a fine (approx. $400 + costs), received a suspended 30-day jail sentence, and was required to complete a driver intervention program.
