We are deeply saddened to share that A.T. Wall, longtime Director of the Rhode Island Department of Corrections, died peacefully on December 11 after a long illness, surrounded by his family and long-time caregivers. He was 72.

@DavidMoralesRI We don't allow neck gaiters inside our facilities and haven't for quite sometime. Staff wear masks that meet RIDOH and CDC standards. Once the pandemic subsides, please have your office call us; we will gladly schedule a tour, as we've done with other legislators in the past.

While that does not align with the actual lived experiences of inmates, that’s reassuring to hear. Just to confirm, all officers wear CDC approved facemasks at all times, as opposed to neck gaiters? All that said, I’d appreciate a tour visit! Let’s schedule it.

The conditions inside our State's corrections facilities are inhumane. There is no formal quarantine process for inmates who are COVID positive or opportunities to receive adequate PPE (e.g., multiple cloth masks). No human deserves to experience this. We must address this now.
