Man. Get a map. I've lived and worked there for over 30 years. The SOH is NORTH of Dubai on the Musandam peninsula. I've camped there looking at the strait. No sand beaches, just rocks. Small. small grottoes of sheer rock. The Iranian side is 3,000 ft cliffs and a narrow coastal road. We were talking about Kharg Island, which is 400 nm northwest. Here. This is for you. Study it.

Amid the war in Iran, the IDF says that in the past two weeks it demolished five kilometers worth of Hamas tunnels in the Gaza Strip. One of the tunnels was located in the eastern Rafah area, where dozens of Hamas gunmen had been holed up amid the ceasefire. Another tunnel was located in Khan Younis, the military says.

#Syria: a rare look inside an illegal excavation of an archaeological Tell in #Hasakah province - and the destruction left behind. Such artificial hills are formed by the accumulation of human settlement layers over millennia. Treasure hunters dug through Islamic-period layers (0:35) to reach deeper, more ancient levels in hopes of finding valuable artifacts such as coins or statues.

#Syria: illegal excavations filmed in broad daylight at Tell Arban, in Shaddadi countryside (S. #Hasakah province). The region contains several similar sites - artificial hills usually formed since the Bronze Age through the accumulation of successive human settlements over the millennia. Now that the area is under Government control, calls are being directed to the competent authorities to put an end to these practices, which pose a threat to the preservation of the local archaeological heritage.
