Also spent some time measuring the heights and basal diameter of trees, which have really shot up in the 6 years post-fire! #wildfire

Bogs & cranberries, it must be fall! 🍂 Wrapping up the field season at my wildfire research site with a few repairs after a large animal yanked wires out of the datalogger 🐻 🫎

Further study will be important to determine how long conditions remain suitable - changes in vegetation cover will affect shading of soil deposits & the amount of radiation reflected (albedo), which will dictate nest #habitat suitability as post-fire recovery continues
English

In the @GBayBiosphere, at-risk turtles nest in shallow soil on #CanadianShield rock. BUT when #wildfire occurs, much of the soil burns off & erodes. Not only does this reduce the number of spots where #turtles can lay eggs, but also affects suitability of remaining nest habitat

And that's a wrap for my first big (& very PEAT-y) conference! So excited for future opportunities like this, and feeling very lucky to be part of such a fun & supportive research group 😊 (feat. amazing #swagnum stickers by @RachelYFallas

Learned about unexpected timing of evapotranspiration in subalpine ecosystems from @LindseyLangs, and the role of seasonal ground ice in ET from Brandon Van Huizen & the @UW_Hydromet group

Had a great time at the @CGU_UGC conference! I presented part of my first PhD chapter on interannual variability of surface energy balance in unburned @GBayBiosphere rock barrens - this will act as a baseline to compare energy fluxes in an area that experienced wildfire!🧵
