@SeaSpringSeeds One of my favourites. Made a farmers cheese, with a load of these in the mix.

"Calico" 3rd season trying to get this variety to a mature plant. This year, grabbed a plug from Joy, @SeaSpringSeeds and here we are. Love the variegated leaves and the splash of purple.

@SeaSpringSeeds Im going back to the amazing "Wraith" next year. Was such an amazing plant for me, it just kept pumping out the pods. Loved the taste and heat of them. And made all sorts with them from pickled onions to farmers cheese with slithers of "Wraith" in it.

Sown in early February, plants of both Hot Juan and Hot Juanita have now got red fruit on them, making these varieties this year's earliest maturing chlllies, and possibly the two earliest varieties we sell from our entire range.

We’ve just started to harvest the leafy sideshoots sprouting off the main stems of our Oldenburg Kale. The shoots were topped with tiny, unopened flower buds and measured about 10 to 20cm long. When cooked, they were tender and tasty – who needs purple sprouting broccoli?

@justmetraceyb Yes, our greenhouses get really hot when the sun shines, but its the night temperatures I would be concerned about in March. Still that extra cloche would make a big difference.

@SeaSpringSeeds Basil always germinates here in the unheated greenhouse in March with a cloche over it. Our greenhouse was 20 degrees on Saturday!

@Guestlandlord No we don't. We don't save any of the seeds for sowing either as they cross with other winter squash very readily. If you save the seed you could get anything next year!

Try using a heavy duty ice cream scoop to deseed pumpkins, marrows and winter squashes with large cavities. Our scoop came cheap at a charity shop, though different versions are readily available elsewhere. (The picture is of Crown Prince winter squash being deseeded)

@ChilliChirps That is interesting. Everyone always says rocotos are the most cold resistant Capsicum species, but I have never tested that claim, and your experience certainly doesn't support it. Could it be a myth?

There might be a distinction between the concepts of: • Grows well at cooler temperatures • Cold tolerant The habaneros on the left have weathered the cold snap well, while the supposedly tolerant rocoto (mini olive) on the right is done for. Admittedly, a small sample size...
