This is not good news given what will now happen to UK finances as a result of the war on Iran.
And perhaps we can have some silence from all those who piled to exaggerate the significance of January’s freak figures.
The UK borrowed a higher than expected £14.3bn in February. The shortfall between government spending and income was £2.2bn higher than in the same month a year ago and far above the £8.5bn forecast by economists polled by Reuters.
At a time of peril for nation’s finances it is frightening to have R Reeves as Chancellor.

The Free Speech Union is bringing a judicial review against Communities Secretary Steve Reed, challenging his decision to impose an official definition of ‘anti-Muslim hostility’ (Islamophobia).
This is a Muslim blasphemy law by the back door, which will silence legitimate criticism of Islam and prevent people from speaking out on issues such as the grooming gangs scandal.
The proposed definition is vague and subjective, and liable to be weaponised to shut down lawful debate about Islam, Muslims, and Islamic practices and history.
Adopting such a definition — let alone appointing an Islamophobia ‘Tsar’ — breaches the ‘occupying the field’ doctrine in public law.
Our lawyers have sent a Pre-Action Protocol letter setting out why the definition is unlawful, and have asked the Government to pause both its rollout and the appointment of the ‘Tsar’ until the case is resolved.
Judicial reviews against Secretaries of State are costly, but this is a fight we must win.
Blasphemy laws were abolished by Parliament in 2008 — let’s keep it that way.

Less than a week after the Communities Secretary, Steve Reed, published the definition — assuring the public it would not stifle legitimate criticism of Islam — Nick Timothy is facing calls to resign after criticising mass ritual prayer by Muslims in Trafalgar Square. He has been accused of “anti-Muslim hostility” by a Labour MP and reported to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. This is a Muslim blasphemy law by the back door. Today, the Free Speech Union has sent a pre-action letter to Steve Reed, threatening judicial review if the definition and guidance are not withdrawn immediately.
