Forget fact-checking: the holy grail of journalism is right of reply. No one should be able to publish an allegation without giving the other party time to respond. But the "useless black government official" narrative is so strong in many newsrooms, they drop their standards.

Hi Western media. This "Dark Africa" tone in your reportage is NOT cool. Viruses mutate. The reason you know about "South African" variant is because our scientists have the tools for sequencing & communicating openly. UK is sequencing. USA & many others are not sequencing. So

Nearly 70% of vaccine doses administered so far have been in the world’s 50 wealthiest countries. Only 0.1% have been administered in the 50 poorest countries. New data from international Red Cross federation. "It is unfair, and could prolong or worsen this pandemic," IFRC says.

Yes. Yes it is. And it really is dangerous for the learners, teachers and school communities that it is your duty to serve, that you cannot - that you refuse - to recognise that.

"This pandemic has clearly proven that we are only as strong as our most vulnerable, and that every person in society needs to protected in order for us all to be safe," says Amina Rai, UNHCR Private Sector Partnerships Africa: bizcom.to/1/4dgh #LockdownLessons #Covid19

1. Nic has no background in medicine, epidemiology or anything remotely linked to science. His background is in *drumroll* economics, so that’s the bucket of salt you must take his views with. 2. Even I, with no background in virology, know that TRANSMISSION is the issue. 🙄🙄🙄

Children younger than 10 are less likely to contract Covid-19 and should be among the first to go back to school. That's the view of education researcher Nic Spaul. #Day46ofLockdown Courtesy #DStv403

If you're calling to #EndTheLockdownSA without proper consideration & regulations in place to protect people (specifically the most vulnerable) & if you've ever suggested letting the 'virus run its course', just admit that poor people dying doesn't bother you & be done with it.

South Africa after 57 days had 11,000 cases and about 200 deaths. The US after 57 days had about 1,000,000 cases and 54,000 cases. England at 57 days had about 120,000 cases and 26,000 deaths. Did South Africa's Lockdown work? It's anyone's guess.

A personal perspective - Many years ago I was forced to give two years of my life to people who were convinced, and assured me, that the ANC and most of my countrymen were actually my enemies, and that they will take all that I value from me. Twenty six years after /
