#Raghav Chadda leaving @AamAadmiParty and joining BJP has surprisingly shocked many!! But I was shocked long long ago when so many of our activist friends from people's movements including (once upon a time very very ) close colleagues in the @NarmadaBachao joined AAP to contest elections, firstly thinking that the mass resistance of people - a movement will automatically convert into vote bank and secondly, even after knowing the very nature of India Against Corruption & AAP politics- that even supported big #dams in Himachal Pradesh for water to Delhi! At the time, there was little room for dissent. Whatever some of us tried to say was dismissed as inconsequential, and those raising concerns treated as persona non grata. What seemed evident eventually played out. Few NBA activists who contested elections as AAP candidates lost—some even forfeiting their deposits. In my view, this experiment left a damaging imprint on the NBA in many ways. Yet, like many such decisions, its impact was never critically assessed, including the lakhs spent from the movement’s already limited resources. Despite this, I continued to raise my voice against AAP politics, as I saw it as directly undermining people’s movements. I recall writing since 2014 and later, an open letter in 2019 to @AtishiAAP [Marlena], addressing one among several concerns I had with the party. Revisiting it now feels necessary. nandinioza.blogspot.com/2019/05/letter…

Just before the local body elections, the Gujarat Election Commission cancelled an old provision that prevented persons with criminal records to be appointed as booth agents by the parties. Now parties can appoint criminals as agents. Perfectly suits your record @ECISVEEP

Almost half of IAC leadership absorded by BJP over last 15 yrs: Bedi, Mishra, Ilmi, Chadha & (de facto) Vishwas. It's all been an extended public demonstration about the nature of corruption. Its not about 'bad politicians' but how institutions work in a crony capitalist economy.

Their hate Dalits, but love cow poop. Ajinkya Rajput explains how caste Hindus treated Bodhisattva Babasaheb Ambedkar after the historic Mahad Satyagraha. They performed Vedic rituals and mixed cow urine, dung, and other substances to purify the Chavdar Lake water. Sick.

Raghav Chadha can still raise chai-samosa issues. He can now speak about chai jihaad, samosa jihaad, Hindu chai, Muslim samosa, how Hindus shouldn’t eat samosas since samosas are originally Persian. The possibilities are endless for him.

Suhag, you are making it worse for yourself. You'll never win a debate with @mehdirhasan for two reasons. One, he's usually right. Two, you're always wrong. Retreat before he embarrasses you further.
Suhag A. Shukla@SuhagAShukla

Well, let's start with the post that started this exchange @mehdirhasan. "I tried to warn right-wing Hindu Americans that getting in bed with Trump and his white supremacist pals would backfire on them eventually. Racists are always going to be racist." I'm fairly confident that your use of "right-wing" here is not a benign descriptor. And really, Hindu Americans are in bed with white supremacists?!? As for your critique/claims about @HinduAmerican -- they're false and smears, so when you're ready to retract them and have fact-based dialogue, I'm happy to oblige.

I am happy for Raghav Chadha. He can finally move on from raising superficial issues like "Why is there sugar in soft drinks?" for social media views, to more weighty issues like "Should Muslims have rights?" for real power and prestige in #NewIndia.

You were a simple spokesperson of the party. The only thing you have done is go to TV channels and speak. Kejriwal trusted you and gave you an MP ticket from Delhi. You lost. He then offered you a safe seat and campaigned for you to make you an MLA. You were never involved in ground politics, but still Kejriwal gave you more than what you deserved just because of trust. AAP won Punjab, and as you were a good speaker and a trusted party person, you were offered a Rajya Sabha MP position. As a young MP, you married a Bollywood film star, and at the same time, the top leadership was raided and arrested by ED on the instructions of Ranga Billa. Here is where things changed. Your name was also in the chargesheet. Like others, it was confirmed that you would have to go to jail and be deprived of the luxuries that you are used to. You used your wife's family BJP connections to stay away from arrest and ran to London. You came back with a condition that you would not speak anything against BJP, but as an opposition leader, it was not possible. You started picking topics to build your career as a young Gen Z-style politician using PR agencies. But you got exposed, and people now understand what your motives were. You can't leave politics because your Bollywood wife can't just be the wife of a jobless CA with zero experience. You can't stay in AAP without doing AAP-style politics. You can't speak against Modi. You have only one option, and that was to leave AAP and join BJP. But that would mean that you would have to lose your RS membership. You held a few meetings and planned ED raids on people whom you could pressure to come along with you to make your defection safe. You have saved your marriage and RS seat, but in the end, you have sabotaged your image and the trust of thousands of volunteers who made you what you are today. Just three words for you. SHAME ON YOU.

Always said this... whatever respect Modi commands internationally is not because Modi or his work/ideology etc... it's because of India and what value India brings to the table...and he uses that image to propagate domestically his hindutava propaganda.
Audrey Truschke@AudreyTruschke

India is the worldwide brand, not Modi. The Hindu strongman that plays well at home has generally flopped abroad. Modi is tolerated internationally, because other nations want Indian resources. But India is what's desired, not Modi's Hindu Rashtra. theatlantic.com/international/…
