I see this a lot with jobseekers. You spend months applying. Fixing your resume. Optimizing your LinkedIn. Posting consistently. Pitching. Learning new skills. Then you finally land the remote job and you DISAPPEAR. You stop posting and engaging. You literally abandon your personal brand. You go quiet until something happens. Maybe the contract ends or the company restructured. That’s when you finally remember you have a social media account and then you come back and start building your brand again from SCRATCH. This is a HUGE mistake. Your personal brand is not something you build only when you are job hunting. It is something you build continuously because the moment you stop showing up, you lose visibility and when you lose visibility, opportunities reduce. Keep building even after you land the job. Keep sharing your journey. Keep positioning yourself. So you are not starting from zero every time.

So here are 3 clear signs your resume needs a revamp. 1. You are applying consistently but not getting interviews If you have submitted multiple applications and you are not even getting screening calls, your resume is likely not aligned with the roles you are targeting. This usually means your keywords, structure, or positioning needs improvement. 2. Your resume lists duties instead of achievements If your bullet points start with things like “responsible for”, “assisted with”, or “helped with” without showing results, you are not showing impact. Recruiters want to see what changed because of your work, not just what you were assigned to do. 3. You are using one resume for every job Each job description is different. If you are sending the same resume everywhere, your resume is missing key terms that ATS systems look for. Customizing your resume improves your chances of getting noticed. 5 things NOT to say in an interview if you want to land the job Sometimes it’s not your skill that costs you the opportunity. It’s what you say during the interview. Here are five things I’ve seen candidates say that instantly reduce their chances. 1. “I just need any job right now” This makes it sound like you’re not genuinely interested in the role and employers want someone who actually wants to be there, not someone who is just desperate. 2. “I don’t have experience but I can learn” Learning is good, but you should still connect your past experience to the role. Focus on transferable skills instead of presenting yourself as completely inexperienced. 3. “I didn’t really research the company” Even if you didn’t, don’t admit it like this. It shows lack of preparation. Always take time to understand what the company does before the interview. 4. “My last job was terrible” Speaking negatively about your previous employer is a red flag. It can make you seem difficult to work with. Keep your answers professional and neutral. 5. “I don’t have any questions” This makes it look like you’re unserious. Asking thoughtful questions shows interest, curiosity and seriousness about the role. Interviews are not just about answering correctly. My client is an expert in her field but her resume wasn't showing that clearly. Here’s how I took her resume score from 62% to 82%, reflecting her expertise clearly in less than 30min. She’s a marketing professional based in the U.S. reached out to me. She has solid experience, a strong social media presence and a clear career direction. On the surface, everything looked right but she wasn’t getting the traction she expected when applying for roles. The problem wasn’t her skills. It was her resume. It didn’t clearly reflect her competence, and it wasn’t aligned with the specific roles she wanted. Like many professionals, her online presence showed expertise but her resume didn’t tell the same story. You say you’ve been job hunting all week but if we check properly, what you actually did was: - Save a bunch of jobs - Open and close multiple job descriptions - Told yourself “I’ll apply later” - Tweaked your resume again - Watch videos on how to answer interview questions But no actual application submitted. Let me be honest with you. You are not stuck because you don’t want a remote job, you are stuck because the process feels like a lot. Too many requirements, options and pressure to “get it right”. So your brain chooses the easier tasks. The ones that feel productive but don’t really change anything and before you know it, the week is over. This is why I always say your job search needs to be structured. You need to wake up and know exactly what you are doing that day because at the end of the day, the people getting results are not the most motivated. They are the ones who are actually APPLYING.
