He just won re-election March 2026 with ~95% in a vote boycotted by main opposition amid transparency concerns and internet blackout. Freedom House rates it "Not Free" (17/100). My mother was Cuban and a devout Catholic. In 1959 when Castro took over, one of the first things he did was get rid of all of the priests and nuns. He wanted the Cuban people to worship the government, not God. On one of those exile flights, my mother's church dressed her up like a nun so she could escape with them. The Cuban people do not want humanitarian aid, they want freedom. After 67 years, President Trump might finally grant it to them. 🙏🏻 🇨🇺🤝🇺🇸
