In our latest article we demonstrate that Drosophila brain development is under the coordination of the hormone ecdysone. We show that neuroblasts have an intrinsic capacity to proliferate indefinitely and require ecdysone signalling to determine cell cycle pace!
Do you know how animals coordinate the growth of their different organs during development? Systemic signals such as hormones coordinate the development of all organs and direct tissue specific developmental programs.
In our brand-new article in @PLOSBiology we use Drosophila to show that the transcription and translation of neurotransmitter-associated genes is timely coordinated with the animal’s development.
Within hours of #neuron birth, terminal differentiation genes are transcribed, but not translated. In #PLOSBiology, @TheHomemLab reveals that these transcripts are only translated days later in a way that coordinates with developmental stage in #Drosophilaplos.io/3IzWad5

Interestingly, we show that the oncogene dMyc is involved in the upregulation of these transporters, highlighting the important link between oncogenes and metabolic transporters in the regulation of tumor growth.
