Major General Aguiyi Ironsi initiated the release process of Chief Awolowo and co but didn’t live to see it executed: Read: Here are the exact words from the Aug 4, 1966 New York Times and the West African Pilot newspaper of same year 1966: “Thousands of Yorubas in Lagos and throughout the West celebrated into the early hours today over the release of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the hero of the Action Group who was jailed for subversion in 1962. The decision to free him and his party’s aides had already been made a week ago by late Major General Aguiyi Ironsi and they were to have been released tomorrow. But the public did not know this and Lt Colonel Gowon, in carrying out their release as the news Head of State and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. So the facts from NYT (pic 1) and the West African Pilot newspaper line up (pic 2): 17th January 1966: Ironsi’s Military Government said release of political prisoners “will be decided when the time comes.” July 29, 1966: Ironsi and Fajuyi were killed in the counter-coup. Aug 4, 1966 New York Times reports that Major General Ironsi had already decided a week earlier to release Awolowo and aides, with release scheduled for “tomorrow” but the coup happened first. Lt Col Gowon’s regime then carried it out. So Ironsi initiated the release process, but didn’t live to see his orders carried out. The celebration you see in the New York Times report was under Gowon, but the decision was Ironsi’s. Now You know Newspaper source: The legendary historian Ed Keazor. Photo 3 shows a front page headline of the release while the last image shows the official Government gazette signed by Lieutenant Colonel Yakubu Gowon as Head of State.

Nigerians kill me, man. Once they find a way to make sure a general issue doesn’t affect them, the rest is not their business. This mentality is even rampant in the church and you see it in testimonies and prayer requests. It’s a sad reflection of the country and its people.

Nigeria is structured in a way that when a monumental clown becomes president, the damage rarely stays at the top. It trickles down into the economy, affects families, distorts social values, worsens daily life, and even finds its way into people’s dating & relationship choices.

I was in SS3 when my father died. We had not yet enrolled for WAEC because we had just resumed SS3. While on his sickbed, he called me and asked about my preparations. I explained my challenges to him and told him I had not yet bought the recommended textbooks. After listening to me, he lifted his pillow and gave me money to buy the textbooks. I bought the books and returned to show them to him. He prayed for me and told me to ensure that nothing distracted me from reading them and furthering my education. That advice changed my life because it came from the heart of a dying man. Every word from my father's lips exposed his genuine desire to see me succeed. He spoke to me with his eyes fixed to my eyes, in a tensed but solemn atmosphere. I saw hell after my dad's demise, but each time I felt like giving up, I remembered his words. My dad was not rich. I knew what it meant for him to empty his savings from under his pillow just to ensure that I had a future. To every father out there who is struggling and making sacrifices for his children, may God make life easy for you. The world may not celebrate you, but the hearts of the children whose lives you touch will never remain the same. Happy Father's Day, heroes!

I hate the fact that whenever you’re demanding for anything from the Lagos state government. It ends up getting into a tribal or political agenda. Bruh, everywhere is dirty and smelling. Let’s fix this thing. Leave Chinedu alone and get to real business.
