3Paddocks Smallholding
@ThreePaddocks
A productive smallholding with a few passengers (well okay, quite a few!) Pigs, poultry, goats, sometime sheep and now a donkey. New book out now.

I keep getting into discussions about Enoch Burke. I'm putting a line under it. My views on the matter are that his suspension was 100% related to gender identity belief, that the school Principal behaved unjustly albeit with good intention by requesting all staff to use they/them pronouns, that Burke was disruptive and his behaviour objectionable and that this warranted a disciplinary procedure.
Was it gross misconduct justifying skipping the first three steps of routine misconduct hearings? This is questionable. Some will say yes, some will say no.
Yes, he is in jail because he violated court orders. The orders arose because he refused to accept the terms of his suspension (prohibited from entering school grounds).
Ultimately I think two types of extremism encountered each other at Wilsons Hospital School - one, a type of Evangelical Christianity, the other, gender identity belief.
Burke has been used as a mechanism by which to further silence any and all critique of gender identity belief in Ireland. We need more discussion - more open conversation, not less.
At least now people are aware that teachers have been compelled to use preferred pronouns. It is only in very recent months that the Department of Education confirmed that teachers are not required to do so - thanks to an article and coverage in the Irish Times. Remember? In January the Irish Council for Civil Liberties (true story) produced a guide saying schools MUST use preferred pronouns and then the Department responded.
Maybe it's thanks to Enoch that the issue was brought to this. Enoch was never violent. Disruptive yes. I do not agree with his religious beliefs and I think he could have protested the instruction in other more productive ways. But here we are. ENDS. I will not be responding to any comments on this.

This is nauseating and deeply uncomfortable.
You’d swear they’re returning from the Somme or with Olympic gold - not just white and privileged for their passport.
A sombre or respectful thought for the millions of people much less fortunate left behind in a war zone?
Nah.

No one Irish calls it Londonderry. It's Derry from the Irish Doire. No London. Not now, not ever.
@
No Irish president is going to say Londonderry. What has been notable on this visit is that President Connolly has repeatedly said "Northern Ireland".

One good thing about this bitter cold is #seanietheprick is in early every evening waiting for his hay and for me to give the pigs extra straw which he then eats from around them....

Mr. Grey the farm cat who almost died from #catflu who then moved in and loves his comforts. Damaged eye, clipped ear (neutered as a feral). So affectionate and actually too good a hunter depositing his spoils under my bed 🙈
