:In 2018, while the Event Horizon Telescope was busy capturing its historic first image of a black hole, something even more dynamic was unfolding at the heart of galaxy M87.Astronomers pointed the same global network of radio telescopes — along with the Very Long Baseline Array and other dishes scattered across the planet — at the supermassive black hole M87*. What they saw was breathtaking: a furious jet of plasma blasting outward at 99.985% the speed of light, like a cosmic firehose unleashed from the gates of a monster.By combining data from these far-flung telescopes, the team achieved an almost unimaginable sharpness — an angular resolution of just 20 microarcseconds. That’s sharp enough to read a newspaper headline on the Moon. Over the course of just four days, they could actually track individual bright clumps of material racing along the jet, watching them accelerate in real time.The result, published in 2024, is nothing short of a scientific milestone: the first direct “movie” of plasma being accelerated in an extragalactic jet, captured live from 55 million light-years away.And the footage rewrote the rulebook.The jet’s magnetic field isn’t a simple straight arrow — it’s helical, twisting like a glowing corkscrew around the beam. Even more surprising: the particles aren’t getting their enormous energy boost right next to the black hole’s event horizon, as many theories had predicted. Instead, powerful magnetic reconnection events — violent rearrangements of the magnetic field lines — are firing up the plasma much farther downstream.M87’s jet stretches an astonishing 6,000 light-years into intergalactic space — wider than the distance from the Sun to the center of our own Milky Way. My beautiful mother is always in my heart and on my mind, but especially on March 25th, her birthday. I am so grateful that God chose her to be my momma. To say I was blessed is an understatement.
Today, I celebrate the gift of her life and the countless blessings she brought into mine. Her birthday is so special to me, because it gives me another opportunity to honor her extraordinary life.
Even after all this time, I miss her so much it hurts. I will always remember her as the guiding light she was, and continues to be, in my life. She was my foundation, and the many wonderful memories I have of her continue to bring me great comfort.
Loving you more than ever, Mom, and I hope you’re having a beautiful birthday in heaven.

But where was that same compassion on January 19, 2025?
That is the day my 20-year-old daughter, Katie Abraham, was killed here in Illinois. She was innocent. She did not knowingly put herself in the middle of an ongoing law enforcement situation. She was not making a dangerous choice.
She was simply living her life—and it was taken from her.
You have never said her name. You have never come to where she died. You have never acknowledged her publicly.
And beyond that—you have never even responded to me.
I sent you a simple, non-political letter. Not for attention. Not for headlines. Just a father asking for clarity, for answers, and for understanding of the state’s position.
You never replied.
And now, in the wake of another tragedy here in Chicago, your public display of compassion elsewhere—while remaining silent about victims in your own state—feels deeply disconnected from the reality families like mine are living every day.
Instead, you continue to defend sanctuary policies that create the conditions where preventable tragedies like hers can happen.
This is not about politics. It’s about leadership and accountability.
When you choose to publicly mourn some victims while remaining silent about others—especially those lost under policies you support—it sends a message.
Whether intentional or not, it tells families like mine that our loss does not matter the same way.
So I am asking you directly:
Where is your compassion for my daughter? Where is your acknowledgment of victims here in Illinois? And when will you take responsibility for the consequences of the policies you defend?
