Students at Washington got to enjoy today's solar eclipse with a few experiments. So cool!

Washington students learned about the upcoming solar eclipse(Apr. 8), planets, moon phases, and constellations in the Digitarium this week. #ExperienceWCS

Washington Spring Robotics Club is in full swing! Students have 2 missions to choose from...Rescue the Hiker or Hungry Hippos. One mission is a robotic mission and the other is programing. The top teams will advance to the Apr. 27th Showcase at WCHS. #ExperienceWCS

Washington Kindergarten planted green bean seeds to go along with their Fairytale PBL. They read Jack and the Beanstalk and learned that plants need sun, soil, and water. They will be taking care of their plants for the next couple months.

Washington 1st graders dissected worms with the help of Mrs. Gough's HS science class. They studied live worms and then looked inside the nonliving specimens.

Washington Kindergarteners had their first experience with coding in the STEM Lab. They coded a BeeBot to move through a Little Red Riding Hood storyboard. This was a part of their Fairytale PBL.

Washington 3rd grade wrote personal narratives and turned them into an interactive story using the Scratch Jr. app. They coded their programs to bring action into their stories using icon blocks. #ExperienceWCS

1st Grade has been studying Penguins for their Q3 PBL as well as preparing for their Parent Showcase this Friday in the STEM Lab. 1st graders made presentation boards with Mrs. Campbell, wrote Penguin books with Mr. Bailey, and coded robots with Mrs. Esterline. #ExperienceWCS

2nd grade is learning how to code with Sphero Indis and colored program tiles. They are using problem solving and collaboration to complete their program missions. When completed, they write a procedural text using pseudocode to explain what the robot did. #ExperienceWCS

Washington 3rd Grade participated in a Water Cycle activity. They pretended to be water molecules and experienced the journey that a molecule takes. Students discovered that water never stops moving and remains in some places longer than others. #ExperienceWCS

5th and 6th grade had a visit from Science Central. 6th grade learned about different kinds of energy resources, and 5th grade learned about the different states of matter.

Washington 5th graders learned about composting from a couple students in the WCHS Environmental Club. Students will be creating composting options around the school and cafeteria.

Third grade is currently studying weather as their Quarter 3 PBL. Part of their responsibilities is to give the recess weather report at morning announcements. These two third graders were the first meteorologists to announce that ice is on the way!

Washington 5th graders in Mrs. Tucker's Science class are currently working on their Robotics Mars Mission using the EV3s. They use programming, collaboration, and problem solving to complete as many missions as possible by Friday. #ExperienceWCS

Washington 2nd and 3rd Grade created their own Thanksgiving Robotic Parades and invited Kindergarten and 1st Grade to watch. They used Sphero, LEGO Essentials, BeeBots, and Sphero Indi Technology. Happy Thanksgiving! #ExperienceWCS

Washington's First Lego League competed in Kokomo this weekend in a Pre-Qualifying Tournament. They presented an innovation and robotics project and received the Rising Star Award.
