My latest: There is no spring transfer portal period this year, but there's nothing stopping players from changing schools — yet. The NCAA is looking at preventing non-portal transfers, but their approach may not be the best. gatorcountry.com/feature/no-spr…

My latest: Gus Malzahn's retirement was the latest in the changing of the guard. Elite coaching ranks are in the most flux they've been in since the spread revolution. Florida has an opening if Jon Sumrall is up to the task. Read it here: gatorcountry.com/feature/colleg…

My latest: Indiana of all teams winning the national title after an impressive playoff run makes it seem like anything is possible in college sports now. It's true, but that includes challenges to eligibility that would change what college sports are. gatorcountry.com/feature/colleg…

My latest: Billy Napier's leadership reduced the effect of the new NIL and transfer rules on Florida football compared to a lot of the country. That fact is as gone as Napier is, and the full transfer future has finally arrived in Gainesville. gatorcountry.com/feature/florid…

My latest: while it's true that Jadan Baugh's return is validation for Jon Sumrall, those warm feelings only last so long. Baugh being back significantly raises the floor for the offense and even aids the rebuilding of the offensive line. gatorcountry.com/feature/where-…

My latest: it's unfortunate that DJ Lagway's UF career is ending in the transfer portal after 2 years, but it's probably for the best. What the player needs and the school wants aren't the same anymore, so it's time for a fresh start. gatorcountry.com/feature/dj-lag…

My latest: Florida fans were disappointed when it became clear they weren't getting Lane Kiffin. What a difference a week can make. Jon Sumrall has hit it out of the park so far, laying a strong initial foundation and winning over a skeptical fan base: gatorcountry.com/florida-gators…

My latest: The Gators are staring down a historically bad record after a blowout loss to Tennessee. All orange and blue eyes are on Lane Kiffin, but it's best not to forget for a week that there still is a season going on. gatorcountry.com/feature/florid…

My latest: like Wile E. Coyote, college football teams with fired coaches can defy gravity for a time before falling into the ravine. That was UF's story vs. UGA and UK. Whether they recover against Ole Miss is a strong indicator for how 2025 will end gatorcountry.com/feature/florid…

My latest: I studied the last 30 national championships to see who wins titles and where they came from. History says UF should focus on head coaching candidates with P4/NFL experience or coordinators, not G5 up-and-comers. gatorcountry.com/feature/how-th…

My latest: Florida's football program has been behind the curve for too long in too many ways. Its next head football coaching hire must be one focused on the present and future of a college football world that has changed drastically since even Napier's hiring.

After last year's Texas A&M game, I predicted Billy Napier would get fired. After this year's, I'm calling for it. Napier's inability to produce consistent quality play and complete unwillingness to change means Florida needs to move on to a new football coach.

My latest: the next time Billy Napier beats a team with a winning record on the road will be his first, and his team travels to Kyle Field this weekend. I examined all his losses to winning teams away from home to see where the struggles have come from. gatorcountry.com/feature/examin…

My latest: Florida having an off week allowed Gator fans to survey the national landscape. What they saw was further confirmation that there are no superteams anymore, which means no well resourced team is more than a year or two away from contention. gatorcountry.com/feature/colleg…

My latest: We’re past the point of discussion about patience or what realistic expectations are. Plenty of time has passed, plenty of record has accumulated. Here's now Billy Napier's stacks up against his predecessors and peers. gatorcountry.com/feature/compar…

@PokeKingSauce He is the OC, and I’m given to understand he does a lot of the coordination work at practice. There is more to coordinator jobs than play-calling, although media and fans alike seldom speak about it as though that’s true

@Year2 OK, thanks for clarifying. I think some of the media is confused as they continue to call Calloway the OC during broadcasts. I'm sticking with: The good calls are Russ' that Napier green-lights, and the bad ones are Napier's! 😂 BTW: I was just fine with Dan calling plays!

My latest: If Florida's loss to USF felt familiar, it should have. UF displayed many of the same things that have been a problem since the beginning with Billy Napier. If these things can't be fixed, one wonders how much longer this experiment will go on. gatorcountry.com/feature/florid…
