President Tinubu Condoles with Nasir El-Rufai Over Mother’s Death in Cairo President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended heartfelt condolences to former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, following the passing of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, who died today in Cairo, Egypt, after a prolonged illness. In an official statement, President Tinubu described the late Hajiya Umma as a remarkable matriarch who lived a fulfilled life and raised children and grandchildren that have made significant contributions to Nigeria. The President, who personally signed the message, said: “Nasir, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beloved mother, Hajiya Umma, which happened today in Cairo. As someone who had also lost an old mother, I share in your grief. I understand the depth of your loss. Losing a mother is a pain unlike any other. I know that no words can fully ease your sorrow, but I pray that the memories of her love, wisdom, and guidance bring you comfort in the days ahead. I also hope you find strength in the remarkable life she lived and the values she instilled in the entire family. As firm believers in Allah, we are convinced that she has played her part in this world as laid out for her by the Almighty and has gone back to her maker. I join family, friends, and well-wishers in mourning with you. May Allah grant your dear mother Aljannah Firdaus.”

El-Rufai in the docks, agencies piling on, charges multiplying. 4,672 security incidents. 6,800 dead. Zero bandit leaders arrested or prosecuted. But a former governor was charged within months of leaving the president's circle. If your voice had been as loud when Muslims were being killed, including as recently as the bombing of the predominantly Muslim city of Maiduguri last week, as it is whenever Christians are affected, your expression of concern would have been seen as more genuine. However, your selective practice of only finding your voice when Nigerians of Christian faith are affected is far from being Christ-like. It reveals that these concerns are not in any way driven by the love of God or a love for humanity but rather by nothing more than a political agenda desired to appeal to certain interests in the US. Christ would see humanity first before he sees religion. As far as the vast majority of Nigerians are concerned, all Nigerian lives matter both Christians and Muslims and those of other religions, not just Christian’s’. Anything to the contrary is sowing division among the peace loving Nigerian people.

What happened today at the Federal High Court, Kaduna Malam Nasir @elrufai appeared today before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for arraignment on charges filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Surprised that Justice R. M. Aikawa was presiding over the matter, El-Rufai’s legal team reminded the court of their client’s petition against the judge which is pending before the National Judicial Council (NJC). Justice Aikawa ruled that he would at least conduct the arraignment of the two defendants, and hear the matter of his recusal if counsel would bring it by way of a formal written application. The court adjourned proceedings to 31 March 2026 for the hearing of bail and any other applications filed on behalf of Malam El-Rufai and Mr. Joel Adoga. On 17 March 2026, the Kaduna Division of the Court of Appeal set aside Justice Aikawa’s judgment in a fundamental rights enforcement suit that El-Rufai had filed in 2024 against the Kaduna State House of Assembly. The appellate court upheld El-Rufai’s contention that he had been denied a fair hearing and ordered the Federal High Court to rehear the matter afresh. That case had prompted the first petition against Justice Aikawa by El-Rufai’s counsel. In a petition dated 18 July 2024, AU Mustapha, SAN, on behalf of Malam El-Rufai, accused Justice Aikawa of gross bias, injustice, and denial of fair hearing. The petition, addressed to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, requested that the case be reassigned to another judge. When that request was not granted, El-Rufai’s counsel pursued and succeeded in the appeal. The second petition against Justice Aikawa, dated 18 March 2025, was submitted by Malam Nasir El-Rufai to the Chief Justice of Nigeria in her capacity as Chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC). In it, El-Rufai accused Justice Aikawa of bias, injustice, denial of fair hearing, and conduct unbecoming of a judicial officer. Malam Nasir El-Rufai sent reminders concerning the petition to the Chief Justice of Nigeria in November 2025 and again in March 2026. The most recent reminder urged the Chief Justice to ensure that the NJC expedites the resolution of the petition without further delay. The reminder also requested the Chief Justice to direct the immediate transfer of all relevant cases before the Federal High Court, Kaduna, to another judge “as a prudent interim measure to restore impartiality and safeguard judicial processes.”

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby. It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC. May God bless America.

The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time. I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres. We will continue to intensify our efforts against all criminal elements, wherever they may be. I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state. The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down. Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress. Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured. There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President & Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria
