@bluesfolio @lynssss3125 Hospital admissions are billed based on DRGs. Whether we spend $10 or $10,000 on medications during an inpatient admission, we only get what the DRG reimbursement is set at.

@MFJones1618 I fully agree with you; that’s the primary issue I tried to highlight. If we can’t cover costs [bc of minimal/no reimbursement & other factors], then we can’t operate. Existing in a detrimental financial crisis means we’re at risk of closing our doors, no matter our mission.

@mcuban I agree that can be at play, along with a ton of other little things [that add up to a significant amount] that could be done more effectively. Optimization in and of itself takes money, which can sometimes be part of the issue.

@ailley_ I agree. But I can’t tell you the number of nonprofits I have dealt with that overpaid the ceo and others and spent money on non impact expenses, providing less support to their intended beneficiaries

To clarify - by “whatever we want” I meant the appropriate amount that we are legally (and ethically) allowed to charge. But it doesn’t matter how much OR how little we bill; DRG based reimbursement only pays the set fee. Insurance wouldn’t pay us more $$ even if we charged more.
Aileen Ahiskali@ailley_

Unless you serve primarily Medicare/Medicaid patients and your hospital loses money on every single admission. We charge whatever we want, doesn’t mean we’ll actually get anything. Our safety net hospital is fighting to keep its doors open because others take advantage.

@ChrisPorter22 Apologies, I wasn’t clear in my original tweet; by “whatever we want” I meant the appropriate amount that we are legally allowed to, but it doesn’t matter how much OR how little we bill, DRG based reimbursement only pays the set amount. We dont get to decide how much they pay us.

WE all know this. Do you even read? Do you get what Cuban is writing about? Do you understand what you write? "Our safety net hospital" - "We charge whatever we want". How much more silliness will you write and embarrass humanity even more. HOW much is charged over what is spent? Do tell. Who are you accusing of taking advantage? Let's guess.

@nftfish3 I’m sorry you are unaware of how DRG based reimbursement works or how safety net hospitals function. Apologies as I am unable to explain it on Twitter but would be happy to share resources if you’d like to learn on your own.

@ChrisPorter22 DRG based reimbursement means we only get paid whatever the insurance company has decided we get based on the DRGs, regardless of how much we spent to care for those patients. We care for everyone regardless of ability to pay or status.

@ailley_ This could be the most ignorant or false statement ever made. Congrats! Do tell. How is your hospital a "safety net hospital"? If so, why would less money from Medicare/Medicaid be the advantage you seek? How do you conclude "because others take advantage"?

@lynssss3125 Apologies, to clarify - by “whatever we want” I meant that we bill the appropriate amount that we are legally allowed to - but no matter how much OR how little we bill, that doesn’t mean we’ll see even a fraction of it because of DRG based reimbursement.

“‘Vaccines don’t cause autism’ has never been proven.” Correct, because that’s not how science works. If I say “sunning your perineum twice per day increases your IQ by 10 points” you would say, “prove it.” The burden of proof is on me, the person with a tanned perineum. If I responded by saying, “no, you prove to me perineal sunning DOESN’T increase your IQ by 10 points,” I am operating under the false assumption that my perineal sunning claim is fact without evidence to back it up. The burden of proof is on the person claiming that vaccines cause autism, not the other way around.
End Tribalism in Politics@EndTribalism

RFK Jr. just broke down to a college student that the claim “vaccines don’t cause autism” has never been proven. “The people who told you that have been lying to you.“ “In fact, only one vaccine has ever been studied, the MMR vaccine.” “The 20 doses of the seven vaccines that are given during the first year of life — the DTP, the Hib, the hepatitis B, the pneumococcal vaccines and the polio vaccines — have never been studied.” “Congress passed the 1986 Vaccine Act and said, you’ve got to study the DTP vaccine… That study has never been done.” “The only studies that were done were MMR studies, and they were all epidemiological studies… you can’t prove causation with an epidemiological study.” “In 2017, the Institute of Medicine looked at all of the MMR studies and they threw out all but four of them… and the four that were left were all epidemiological studies.” “None of them did what you would want to do if you actually wanted the answer, which is to compare health outcomes in a vaccinated group against health outcomes in an unvaccinated group.” “That’s what we need to do and those studies we’re doing now.”
