There's like three great ideas in-between a lot running and chasing. A more pragmatic director would have cut it to the bone. Josh O'Connor's character was superfluous. Not even a question of sentiment, Spielberg can't bring himself to make a movie where anyone gets hurt too bad.

A little tidbit on Obsession, the costume desgin director purposefully made her wear blue in the beginning and started adding elements of red to showcase the contrast between Real Nikki vs Corrupted Nikki! In the party scene they added a swirl necklace to showcase her spiraling!
