Trust between Mogadishu and Addis Ababa is gone, only leverage remains. The tragic reality is that this confrontation will be fought by Somalis on Somali soil, caught between the ambitions of one individual and the strategic fears of a neighbor. A clash that could have been avoided is now escalating because both sides see Southwest as a zero‑sum game. Unless the international community treats this for what it is, a political crisis driven by constitutional overreach, state‑capture tactics, and regional rivalry, the cycle will continue. Somalia’s stability cannot be held hostage to a third‑term agenda dressed up as nationalism.
